Over 85,000 Boon Flair and Flair Elite highchairs have been recalled due to safety concerns.

The affected product units were available for purchase at both brick-and-mortar stores and major online retailers, including Amazon, Target, Bed Bath & Beyond, and Toys R Us. Customers in both the United States and Canada bought the affected models between 2008 and 2017.

More precisely, the affected Flair Elite highchairs were sold for approximately $380 each between 2008 and 2009, while the affected Flair models were available from January 2008 through February 2017, priced between $230 and $250.

The recall notice issued by the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) on August 31 stated that the products had been manufactured in China. However, TOMY International Inc., located in Oak Brook, Illinois, was the importer.

TOMY International informed the CPSC that certain models had potential safety concerns after receiving 34 reports of the chair separating from the base.

According to the notice, 24 incidents resulted in falls, with children sustaining minor injuries — scratches and bruises — in 11 instances.

The primary issue identified by TOMY International was the bolts that secure the chair’s seat to its base. The bolts can become loose over time, allowing the seat to detach and fall, putting children at risk of injury.

While a single model number for the Flair Elite highchair (B751) was named in the recall notice, 16 Flair highchair model numbers were affected by the recall.

Anyone who might have purchased one of the listed highchair models is urged to stop using them and contact TOMY International for a free repair kit. The kit includes a set of bolts and split and flat washers that will enable customers to properly fasten the seat to the base.

Affected customers can reach TOMY International at 866-725-4407 between 8 a.m. and 4 p.m. CT, Monday through Friday. Additional information is also available on the company’s website under the “Product Recalls” section.
