When Humanity Begins To Play Creator

Not long ago, I had the opportunity to sit in on an investor debrief. As the group discussed various companies, one in particular captured my attention: Becoming AI.

The company’s mission is unlike anything I had heard before. Becoming AI says it is building robotic systems that sustain mammalian development outside the body, paired with artificial intelligence that predicts how development unfolds and responds to intervention.

Its published research currently involves mouse embryos, and the company acknowledges that it has not yet created a functional artificial placenta. Its broader goal is to support longer periods of development outside the body while improving drug testing, disease modeling and biological research.

The implications are profound.

For thousands of years, human life has begun through one of God’s most beautiful designs: the union of a man and a woman, with a child growing safely within the womb of his or her mother. Pregnancy is far more than a biological process. It is a deeply personal relationship. From the earliest moments of life, a mother nourishes, protects, comforts, and forms a unique bond with her child that no machine can truly replicate.

As science advances toward sustaining development outside the womb, we are entering territory that previous generations could scarcely imagine. While these technologies may one day help researchers better understand disease or save lives, they also raise serious moral and spiritual questions.

In Genesis, God created Adam, and from Adam’s rib He created Eve. From the very beginning, God established the family and entrusted men and women with the sacred gift of bringing new life into the world. Human reproduction was never presented in Scripture as merely a biological function to optimize; it is part of God’s design for humanity.

An artificial developmental system, no matter how sophisticated, cannot replace what God intended. It cannot recreate the lifelong bond between a mother and her child. It cannot reproduce the love, sacrifice, protection, and emotional connection that begin long before birth.

These developments also remind me of a broader movement I previously covered within technology that many refer to as the pursuit of technological singularity, the idea that artificial intelligence will eventually become capable of improving itself beyond human understanding or control. Whether or not that future ever fully arrives, we are already seeing companies push the boundaries of what was once considered uniquely human.

As AI continues advancing at an unprecedented pace, today’s scientific breakthroughs may become tomorrow’s ordinary realities. Technologies that seem shocking today could eventually become accepted without much public debate.

I believe innovation is one of God’s gifts to humanity. Medicine, science, and technology have relieved tremendous suffering and improved countless lives. But there is a difference between using our God-given intellect to heal and using it to redefine the roles that God Himself established.

In my view, this technology serves as an important reminder that our greatest responsibility is not to imitate God’s role as Creator, but to faithfully steward the gifts He has already given us. As artificial intelligence continues to reshape our world, Christians must remain grounded, exercising wisdom, discernment, and humility as we navigate innovations that previous generations never had to consider.
