The 10th President of The University of Texas at Arlington (UTA), Jennifer Cowley, addressed faculty, students, alumni, and other community members during her official inauguration on September 30.

Cowley joined the UTA team earlier in the year, according to an official university press release, and since then has established five themes to lay the foundation for the future.

These themes are Student Success, Research and Innovation, People and Culture, Finance and Infrastructure, and Alumni and Community Engagement.

During the ceremony, Cowley shared that each member of the UTA community contributes to its place as a top university, according to the press release.

“We are all here because we each harbor big dreams for this university,” Cowley said. “These dreams bind us together, united in the belief that by being a top research university that’s inclusive to all, UT Arlington can transform not just the lives of Texans, but Texas itself.”

Cowley’s speech mentioned her goals for the school’s future and efforts to grow the institution.

“I dream that UTA will grow and change right alongside our region—in partnership,” she said. “I dream that others see us—and that we see ourselves—as true partners in supporting our region’s economy, culture, and society.”

“And that by doing so, we will come to be seen as one of the most impactful and inclusive research universities in this country. Working together, we will be a force for positive impact across Texas,” she continued.

James B. Milliken, the chancellor of the University of Texas System, and City of Arlington Mayor Jim Ross were in attendance at the inauguration, the press release shares. Milliken praised Crowley for the work she has done in just a short amount of time.

“In just a few short months on campus, we’ve also witnessed Jennifer’s tireless energy and passion while immersing herself in this University’s community. When it comes to leadership, Dr. Cowley knows how to translate ideas into reality; how to transform vision into action,” Milliken suggested.

Ross presented Cowley with a key to the city during the celebration, according to the press release.
