The project to build Texas Woman’s University’s new health science center in Denton is expected to be completed in June 2025.

At an estimated construction cost of nearly $85 million, the health science center will be the first at TWU’s main campus in Denton, with health science centers already established in Dallas and Houston.

“Construction is underway on the health science center, and it remains scheduled to open in time for fall 2025,” TWU spokesperson Matt Flores communicated in an email to The Dallas Express.

In February 2022, TWU regents accepted the plan to build a health science center on its Denton campus after state legislators approved $100 million in funding to build the property near the Parliament Village residential community. The center will include labs, classrooms, clinics, and workspaces; “and will support TWU’s Learn to Thrive: Strategic Plan 2022 and the Higher Education Coordinating Board’s 60×30 plan to increase the number of conferred degrees to Texans,” according to the news release.

“There will be an emphasis on training students to serve in rural health care settings in particular and, as part of that training, clinical health care services will be provided to the community.”

The College of Health Sciences offers programs at all of its campuses designed to help prepare students for careers in nursing, occupational therapy, and physical therapy, along with providing training to students.

TWU broke ground on the new building in September. In Denton, the College of Health Sciences conferred 823 degrees, and the College of Nursing conferred 727 degrees in 2022. TWU expects to graduate 30% more students in the healthcare industry after the center opens, per the university’s factbook, as reported by The Dallas Morning News.

Building the health science center was one of four higher-education construction projects authorized by the Texas Legislature in 2021 for $100 million or more during the special session, TWU said in the release.

The state filing lists Dallas-based SmithGroup as the design firm for the nearly 140,000-square-foot project.
