The Arlington Independent School District announced in a press release on March 24 they are expanding its pre-kindergarten program for the upcoming Fall season, and the classes will be free.

Arlington ISD’s STEM curriculum, dubbed “Full STEM Ahead,” will introduce students to science, technology, engineering, and math lessons. Throughout the year, art, music, and movement will be integrated into every classroom in hopes that students will receive a comprehensive education.

“The Arlington ISD provides our 21st-century learners exceptional educational opportunities throughout their experience in our schools. This journey for our youngest learners begins with pre-K,” Arlington ISD Superintendent Dr. Marcelo Cavazos said in a press release.

Fox News reports that children age four will be eligible to attend the free pre-kindergarten program at the beginning of the 2022-23 school year, regardless of family income.

“We know that by starting STEM early through fun and interactive experimentation, our pre-K students will be inspired to learn and discover through their lifetime,” Cavazos said.

Arlington ISD said each pre-K teacher in the district is certified to teach early childhood learning. Teaching assistants will also be present in pre-K level classrooms.

“Arlington ISD teachers don’t just teach, either,” said the press release. “They nurture, guide, and love your child like they were their own. They focus as much on their social and emotional needs as they do on making sure they are learning their letters and numbers.”

According to FOX News, Arlington ISD receives funding from Texas for students who meet specific eligibility requirements. However, the school district will not be reimbursed for students who do not meet the criteria.

According to ABC News, the classes will not be limited to Arlington residents as non-residents may also enroll their children for free.

“It’s a local investment from our local budget to make sure that we serve all students,” said Cavazos. “We know that that investment benefits us not only today because of pre-k but throughout their whole experience with Arlington ISD.”

While the program is free for all families, Arlington ISD said they will still be required to complete federally mandated enrollment paperwork. Registration will open on the Arlington ISD website on April 1.
