A student has died and another was injured after a shooting Monday at Lamar High School in Arlington.

The shooter, also a student, was taken into custody and charged with capital murder, Arlington police said.

The incident began at 6:55 a.m. Monday.

Officers located the alleged shooter upon arrival at the scene and took him into custody.

The school was subsequently placed on lockdown.

Classes for Tuesday have been canceled, the Arlington Independent School District said.

Officers do not believe that the shooter entered the school. Lamar was not officially open at the time of the shooting.

The lockdown was lifted after police secured the area and soon after began to allow children present to reunite with their families.

The first victim, a male who later died, was taken to the hospital and was in critical condition while a second, a girl sustained non-life-threatening injuries, according to Fox 4 News.

Each party involved in the event was under the age of 17, police said.
