Denton ISD is expected to begin renovations at three campuses to improve athletic facilities, according to several state filings.

The projects include installing artificial turf on football fields, adding new track and field event areas, placing chain-link fences around facilities, and building 2,400-square-foot storage units at Crownover Middle School, Myers Middle School, and Rodriguez Middle School. The estimated construction cost for each project is $800,000.

The work is part of a $1.4 billion bond package voters approved last May. The Dallas Express recently reported the district plans to start renovations at two of its high schools — Guyer and Ryan. The delivery date for those projects is December 2025. The middle school projects have an anticipated delivery date of August 1.

Improvements at Guyer include baseball concessions, a new indoor practice facility and agriculture barn, walkways, and mechanical, electrical, and plumbing replacements. At Ryan, an indoor practice facility and transportation center will be constructed, and new artificial turf will be installed at the softball field. Auditorium, classroom, and band hall renovations are also planned, and a black box theater will be built at the main building.

Voters approved two propositions designed to address student opportunities, growth, and safety. The package was approved with 62% of the vote, representing the largest capital-improvement plan in Denton ISD’s history.

With a student population of about 32,000, the district is expected to increase that figure by 4,000 over the next five years in one of the fastest-growing counties in the U.S.

Denton ISD recorded an on-time graduation rate of nearly 98% in 2021-2022 — well above the state average of 90%. By comparison, barely 81% of Dallas ISD’s Class of 2022 received a degree in four years despite educators’ best efforts.
