Denton ISD is scheduled to begin improvements at two of its high schools in May of this year as part of the district’s $1.4 billion bond package.
At Ryan High School, new artificial turf will be installed at a softball field, and an indoor practice facility and transportation center will be built, according to a state filing. Renovations at the auditorium, band hall, and classrooms are also planned, and a black box theater will be added at the main building. Mechanical, electrical, and plumbing equipment will be replaced.
That project has an estimated construction cost of $33.9 million.
Construction at Guyer High School includes a new indoor practice facility, baseball concessions, a new agriculture barn, walkways to connect new buildings to existing pathways, improved landscaping, and mechanical, electrical, and plumping replacements. The estimated cost of construction is $19.9 million.
Both projects have an estimated delivery date of December 1, 2025.
Almost a year ago, voters approved a pair of propositions designed to address safety, growth, student opportunities, and technology upgrades, as previously reported by The Dallas Express.
The $1.4 million bond election was approved with 62% of the vote, marking the largest capital-improvement plan in the district’s history, according to the district’s website.
Denton County is one of the fastest growing in the United States, with a population of nearly 1 million, according to the U.S. Census Bureau. Student enrollment at Denton ISD is at about 32,000, with that number projected to increase by 4,000 over the next five years.
The district clocked an on-time graduation rate of 97.6% during the 2021-2022 school year. For comparison, only 81.1% of Dallas ISD’s Class of 2022 earned a degree in four years despite the best efforts of its educators.
