A woman died in custody at a motel Wednesday morning from a self-inflicted gunshot wound after a SWAT team was called to negotiate with someone barricaded after a reported shooting.

Dallas law enforcement initially responded to a shooting at the Motel 6 at Market Center Boulevard, according to a police department press release received by The Dallas Express.

The incident is being investigated by the department’s special investigations unit as a death in custody.

The woman, whose name has not yet been released, initially called 911, allegedly saying she shot a man inside a motel room.

When police entered the premises, they found the victim and the woman who allegedly shot the man still inside the same room.

Police attempted to talk to the woman and persuade her to leave the room. When she did not, a SWAT team was called to respond to the situation involving a “barricaded person.”

As they tried to enter the room, police said they heard gunshots and found the female suspect dead. The male shooting victim was taken to the hospital and is in stable condition.

A motel worker told The Dallas Express that police were still at the motel at 3:30 p.m. and had been there for more than three hours.

Police said the investigation was ongoing and that there was no more information to be released at this time.
