A woman was shot and killed by Denton County sheriff’s deputies following a confrontation at an Arlington emergency room.

The Dallas Express confirmed with Captain Orlando “Hino” Hinojosa of the Denton County Sheriff’s Department that peace officers from his agency shot and killed 29-year-old Victoria Lauren Edwards on Saturday.

A fatal chain of events was set off after Edwards allegedly made suicidal comments at an Arlington Memorial Hospital and brandished a firearm, according to Fox 4.

Edwards left the facility without further incident.

Denton County sheriff’s deputies later discovered her vehicle in the parking lot of Greenbelt Corridor Park on East University in Denton, per WFAA.

After searching a trail at the park, deputies reportedly found Edwards and confronted her, giving commands for her to drop the firearm.

She allegedly pointed the weapon at the deputies, and that is when they fired on her, according to a news release provided to The Dallas Express.

Deputies tried to provide Edwards with emergency aid, but she succumbed to her injuries, according to the news release.

The Denton County Sheriff’s Office confirmed to The Dallas Express that the Texas Rangers are now heading an investigation into the shooting.

The Dallas Express contacted the Texas Rangers and Arlington Memorial Hospital for additional information and comment but did not hear back by press time.

The shooting death on hospital property comes in the wake of the murder of two nurses at Methodist Dallas Medical Center in Dallas, who were allegedly shot and killed by aggravated robbery parolee Nestor Hernandez, 30, as previously reported in The Dallas Express.

Dallas has seen an uptick in violent crime since the beginning of the new year, including murder, which has increased roughly 13% year-to-date as of Tuesday.

The wording makes it sound like she was shot on property, when in fact she was shot on a green belt not the hospital property.

Journalists word headlines to get you to read them. Yes, it’s misleading but that’s what journalism is about. Power of the press. smh

You point a gun at police officers, expect to get shot. I believe this has been referred to as suicide by cop.

Point a firearm at police that will certainly get you a one way to Heaven! A permanent solution to a temporary problem!! I was just reminded that some people need to be taken out before they take out someone. Sad situation.

The Dallas Express needs to correct the headline and the bottom part of the article. There was no “…by Officers at Local Hospital” or “The shooting death on hospital property….”
Does the person writing this know the distance
between Arlington memorial hospital and where the shooting happened in Denton?
If I read another article from the Dallas Express I will have to take it with a heavy heavy grain of salt.
