A North Texas woman has been arrested after allegedly fatally stabbing her father-in-law.

Jennifer Lynn Brabbin, 41, reportedly killed Robert Brabbin, 76, Tuesday morning in Cleburne.

Cleburne Police and Fire responded to the 700 block of Miracle Lane disturbance just before 10 a.m. Upon arriving at the scene, first responders found Brabbin with severe stab wounds. He was taken to Texas Health Cleburne Walls Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

Brabbin’s daughter-in-law was immediately taken into custody and booked into the Johnson County Law Enforcement Center on a charge of murder, according to police.

Precinct 1 Justice of the Peace Ronny McBroom set her bond at $1 million on Wednesday morning, according to the Cleburne Times-Review.

The town of Cleburne garnered media attention earlier this month when 18-year-old Kaylee Lanay Merchant was shot and killed while sitting in her boyfriend’s SUV, as previously reported by The Dallas Express.

Police said that an altercation took place with a third individual, which escalated into a shooting. Merchant was on her way to her 7-year-old brother’s birthday party when she was shot.

Giovanni Jimenez Diaz, 20, of Cleburne, was arrested and charged with Merchant’s murder. Cleburne police said public tips helped lead to the arrest.

Cleburne is about 32 miles south of downtown Fort Worth and 57 miles southwest of Dallas.

Closer to home, Dallas has clocked 140 homicides this year, according to the City’s crime analytics dashboard. The murder rate in Dallas is 19.01 murders per 100,000 persons.

Criminal activity is especially rampant in Downtown Dallas, which regularly outpaces Fort Worth’s city center in terms of various criminal offenses.

The Dallas Police Department labors under a chronic shortage of police officers, fielding only about 3,000, despite a City analysis recommending about 4,000 to patrol the City adequately.

City leaders in other high-crime jurisdictions, such as New York City, Los Angeles, and Chicago, have allocated far higher sums to their police departments than the Dallas City Council, which approved a DPD budget of just $654 million this fiscal year.
