A local shooting at a chicken wing restaurant in Dallas County has left one person dead and another injured.
The fatal shooting occurred on the night of June 3 inside the Wingstop in Irving, located at Nursery Road and East Irving Boulevard. The injured victim was transported to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
One suspect is now in custody, per the Irving Police Department. The names of the suspects or victims have yet to be released, nor a possible motive. The shooting is currently under investigation.
The number of people inside the chicken chain at the time of the shooting is unknown; however, the Irving police received multiple 911 calls about the incident, a department spokesperson told Fox 4 KDFW.
“From my understanding, he was arrested within 10 minutes of this incident. As far as where that arrest occurred, I don’t know,” Anthony Alexander, with Irving Police Department Media Affairs, told the news outlet.
Despite reductions in some categories of violent crime, murder and aggravated assault are still big problems in nearby Dallas.
There have been 89 murders and 2,382 aggravated assaults committed in Dallas as of June 3, per the City’s crime analytics dashboard.
Assault offenses to date have been reported highest in Jesse Moreno‘s Council District 2, followed by Adam Bazaldua‘s Council District 7.
The Dallas Police Department continues to fight crime despite being short-staffed. DPD only has around 3,000 sworn officers citywide, despite a prior City report claiming roughly 4,000 were necessary to maintain public safety in a jurisdiction the size of Dallas.
The added strain upon officers will likely continue as the City of Dallas budgeted only $654 million this fiscal year for DPD, significantly less taxpayer money being allocated to public safety than other high-crime jurisdictions, such as Los Angeles, Chicago, and New York.
