A beloved teacher for the Wylie Independent School District was killed in her home on Sunday in what family members said was a murder-suicide involving her husband, according to police.

Officers from the Josephine Police Department responded to the 700 block of Mallard Drive at approximately 8 p.m. on September 11.

The victim, Lacie Moore, 40, was found dead from a fatal gunshot wound. Moore’s husband was also found dead with apparent gunshot wounds.

The Josephine police chief assured residents that it was an isolated incident and that there was no threat to the community, according to a press release.

In an interview with a local news station, a member of Moore’s family stated that they believed it was a murder-suicide.

The Wylie ISD community is in shock and mourning; Principal Cody Summers of Davis Intermediate School, where Moore taught, issued a statement to the parents:

“Mrs. Moore was a bright light and a beloved member of our Davis family. We cannot express how deeply she will be missed, and we ask that you join us in keeping her family and loved ones in your thoughts and prayers as they grieve this heartbreaking loss.”

Wylie ISD provided a statement to The Dallas Express from April Cunningham, executive director of communications.

“Those who knew Mrs. Moore best say that she loved teaching and helping students achieve success. Mrs. Moore was an upbeat, positive, and dedicated educator who left her mark on Davis Intermediate and Wylie ISD,” said Cunningham.

She added, “Our Wylie ISD family is devastated by the passing of Lacie Moore, Davis Intermediate teacher. Mrs. Moore positively impacted the lives of so many students, and we are heartbroken by the loss of this incredible teacher and even better person. Our thoughts and prayers are with Mrs. Moore’s family during this tremendously difficult time.”

Moore taught fifth-grade English and language arts and had been with the district since 2020.

Before she started teaching in Wylie ISD, Moore taught for several years in Community ISD. She was the mother of three children, who are being cared for by their grandmother and other family members.

The community will hold a vigil Tuesday evening at Davis Intermediate, starting at 7 p.m.

A GoFundMe was created to assist with funeral arrangements and can be found here.

The incident is under investigation.
