A woman died after being hit by a vehicle overnight following the driver’s attempt to shoot others at the scene, according to police.

Authorities claim that the deceased woman was an innocent bystander in a public dispute between a handful of individuals.

The unidentified male suspect who ended up driving the vehicle that killed the woman was arguing with a different woman in the 800 block of Denley Drive near Morrell Avenue in southern Dallas.

A second man, who police believe to be an acquaintance of the woman in the dispute, came over during the argument. That is when police say the supposed hit-and-run driver allegedly pulled out a firearm and started shooting.

As the suspect sped away from the scene in his car, he apparently struck the woman, who police say was just sitting on the curb, having nothing to do with the preceding argument and gunfire.

The victim was taken to an area hospital, where she later died, according to police.

The first media reports on the incident, posted in the early hours of Tuesday morning, initially claimed that everyone involved in the matter had fled the scene before law enforcement arrived.

However, police later told a local news station that the woman involved in the argument with the driver stayed at the scene along with her presumed male acquaintance.

No other injuries have been reported.

A description of the vehicle had not been made available as of Tuesday afternoon.

Dallas police are investigating the incident, and no other information is readily available at this time.

The Dallas Express reached out to the Dallas police for more information regarding the incident, but no reply had been received as of press time.
