Two more homicides were reported in Dallas this week, bringing the total to 8 so far in December.

A 36-year-old man died after being shot early Thursday morning in Dallas, police reported.

Officers responded to the 4700 block of Berridge Lane in East Dallas at 5:37 a.m. on December 11, following a shooting call.

Daniel Tovar was found shot when police arrived at the scene. Dallas Fire-Rescue transported him to a local hospital in critical condition. Tovar later died from his injuries.

The circumstances surrounding the shooting, which occurred in a residential area of Dallas, remain unclear. Police have not released details about potential witnesses or surveillance footage and are continuing to investigate the case, documented under #176863-2025.

Detective D. Grubbs is leading the investigation. Anyone with information should contact him at 469-540-6377 or [email protected].

On Thursday afternoon, at about 3 p.m., officers responded to another shooting call in the 2400 block of Meyers Street near Downtown Dallas. They discovered Antwan Bell, 39, dead from gunshot wounds inside a vehicle.

Investigators quickly identified 23-year-old Shakuri Reece as the suspect. Police arrested Reece and booked him into Dallas County jail on murder charges.

The case remains under investigation as detectives work to establish a motive. Authorities have not released details about what led to the shooting.

Detective F. Silva is leading the investigation, documented as case #177076-2025. Police ask anyone with information to contact Silva at 214-608-2832 or [email protected].

There have now been 136 murders reported by the City of Dallas this year, according to the Dallas Crime Analytics dashboard.

The Dallas Police Department’s efforts to combat violent crime continue to be hampered by a chronic shortage of police officers, and the City has yet to meet the standards mandated by Dallas voters through Proposition U, passed last year. The measure requires the City to maintain a police force of 4,000 sworn officers and to provide the force with a pay and benefits package that ranks among the top five in the metroplex for cities with populations over 50,000.
