Officers with the Fort Worth Police Department (FWPD) are investigating a shooting that left a juvenile dead over the weekend and another seriously injured.

The shooting occurred Sunday afternoon in an apartment complex at 2900 Broadmoor Dr.

When police arrived at the scene, they discovered two juvenile victims lying in a covered walkway. One of the young victims died at the scene, according to police. The other was transported to a nearby hospital.

Three suspects, who police have not yet identified, approached the two juveniles. At least one of the suspects pulled out a firearm and opened fire on the two victims. The suspects managed to flee the scene before officers arrived.

The Dallas Express reached out to FWPD for additional details and information about the incident but did receive a response by press time.

Police have not offered a motive for the shooting, and they have not released the names of the victims. Due to the age of the victims, it is unlikely their names will be released.

Resident Dalina Dennis described what she heard to local news outlet NBC 5.

“I was on the phone talking to my cousin in Philadelphia, heard [five] shots, jumped up and said ‘somebody just got shot,'” Dennis said.

“The gentleman fell to the ground and he then screamed out, ‘It wasn’t me, it wasn’t me,’ and stumbled a little bit and the gentleman that came from behind the dumpster was holding his shorts obviously indicating that he had a gun,” Dennis continued.

She said the suspect was wearing a mask and ran away.

The investigation is ongoing.

Violent crime has been a serious problem in the DFW metroplex, but especially in Dallas, where murders are up by more than 20% as of May 1 year to date, according to a report by the Dallas Police Department.

Due to the alleged ransomware attack on the City of Dallas, there are currently no publicly available statistics beyond May 1.
