A teenager was arrested in connection with the fatal shooting of an 18-year-old at a 7-Eleven store in east Oak Cliff last week.

Dallas police responded to the store located on the 2900 block of East Ledbetter Drive on the morning of May 9. They found Semaj Mills with a gunshot wound in his neck; though he was transported to the hospital, the injury later took Mills’ life.

Seventeen-year-old Isiaha Dyer now faces a murder charge in Mills’ death. He is currently being held in the Dallas County Jail.

A friend of Mills’, who was with him when he was shot, told police that he and Mills were walking to the 7-Eleven when someone yelled at them. According to the friend, he and Mills saw Dyer holding a rifle and a juvenile holding a handgun.

Dyer and the juvenile allegedly shot at Mills and his friend, causing the two to run into the 7-Eleven. Mills was struck in the neck amidst the gunfire.

As written in an arrest warrant affidavit, Mills’ friend went to the victim’s apartment to tell his family about what had happened.

The affidavit states that Mills’ friend was shown a photo of Dyer and confirmed the person pictured was one of those who shot at them.

The friend also told detectives that he has known Dyer and the juvenile for about a year.

The identity of the juvenile involved in the shooting has not been released. It is unclear if he has been arrested or if he faces charges.

Dyer’s bail has been set at $1 million.
