Arlington Police claim three men connected to the death of 19-year-old Mareon Robertson bragged about killing the victim to neighbors.

As reported by The Dallas Express, Arlington police officers arrested 18-year-old Toby Garcia, his younger brother, 17-year-old Joseph Garcia, and 45-year-old James Capps on May 18 for their involvement in Robertson’s death.

Arlington police believe the three suspects had planned on robbing the 19-year-old before shooting him in the 6000 block of South Cooper Street, near Sublett Road, at about 6 p.m. on May 17.

Authorities said the victim got into the backseat of a vehicle with all three suspects and exited a few moments later. However, Toby Garcia allegedly approached Robertson after they left the car.

According to an affidavit, Joseph Garcia apparently told police he was to take what he could from Robertson’s pockets while James Capps held the gun on the victim. When Robertson attempted to flee, Capps reportedly shot the 19-year-old, killing him.

According to Arlington police, several of the suspects’ family members and friends called authorities about the shooting. They were able to provide vital information that led to the trio’s arrest.

An arrest warrant affidavit for the suspects revealed that one of the callers informed police the three men had allegedly been “bragging of their involvement” in the murder. The caller also claimed Capps had told several people that he was “going to get a gun and kill Robertson.”

Officers arrested the three suspects after receiving a tip that Toby had been spotted near Randol Mill Road and Fielder Road. Police said all three suspects were hiding in a drainage ditch and arrested without incident.

“Getting these suspects into custody took a tremendous team effort,” said Arlington Police Chief Al Jones. “Our Homicide, Fugitive, SWAT, Gang, Violent Crime, and Aviation Units, along with our Community Action Team and Patrol officers all worked together seamlessly on this case to identify these suspects and get them off the streets.”

All three suspects were booked into the Arlington City jail on one count of capital murder and one of evading arrest.

No bonds had been set as of May 23, and it is unclear if any have legal representation.
