NBC “Today” show host Savannah Guthrie issued a heartfelt plea Sunday evening for her missing mother’s safe return, telling whoever took the 84-year-old woman that “it’s never too late” to do the right thing.
The emotional Instagram video comes as Nancy Guthrie’s disappearance stretches into its third week, with the FBI now analyzing DNA from a glove that appears to match one worn by the masked suspect caught on surveillance footage.
“I wanted to say to whoever has her or knows where she is, that it’s never too late. And you’re not lost or alone,” Guthrie said in the message posted Sunday. “And we believe in the essential goodness of every human being.”
The television personality has released five videos since her mother vanished from her Tucson home on January 31. Nancy Guthrie was reported missing on February 1 when she failed to show up for church.
FBI investigators discovered the potentially crucial evidence roughly two miles from Nancy Guthrie’s residence. Among 16 gloves collected during the search, one contained DNA and matched the suspect’s gloves seen in doorbell camera footage.
The gloves were shipped to a Florida laboratory on February 12. Preliminary results were received on February 14, and the FBI is awaiting final confirmation before entering the DNA profile into CODIS, the national database.
“The one with the DNA profile recovered is different and appears to match the gloves of the subject in the surveillance video,” the FBI told Fox 10.
Guthrie’s family has publicly stated their willingness to pay a ransom following reports of bitcoin payment demands. The FBI increased its reward to $100,000 on February 12, when it also released a description of the suspect.
The Pima County Sheriff’s Department established a dedicated tipline and online form for information submissions. Anyone with details about Nancy Guthrie’s whereabouts should contact the FBI hotline at 1-800-CALL-FBI.
