Pair of Homicides Shakes Dallas Streets

Two homicides occur a day apart from each other, leading police to ask for any information on the shooters as they look into the crimes.

Dallas police are investigating a homicide that occurred on Wednesday, May 3, at about 3:50 p.m., according to police.

Officers were called to a shooting incident that took place in the 3200 block of Merrifield Avenue, which is located in District 2. District 2 is represented by Dallas City Council Member Jesse Moreno, who has been named The Dallas ExpressCrime Boss multiple times.

When officers arrived on the scene, they learned that a man had been taken to a local hospital by private vehicle.

Officers were able to identify the man as 31-year-old Xavion Jones.

Jones was shot multiple times, according to police, and the victim was pronounced dead at the hospital.

Police have not arrested a suspect, and the investigation remains ongoing.

The next day, police were called about a 50-year-old shooting victim on May 4, at approximately 8:20 a.m., according to a news release.

The shooting incident took place in the 14900 block of Lasater Drive, which is located in District 8. District 8 is represented by by Dallas City Council Member Tennell Atkins, who recently won reelection in a landslide with 80% of the vote, as reported by The Dallas Express.

When officers arrived at the scene, they discovered a man lying unresponsive, suffering from a gunshot wound, police said.

Police found the victim, whom they identified as 50-year-old Andrea Garcia, on the floor inside the home.

Police did not say whether there were any suspects.

The investigation is ongoing.

Murders in Dallas continue to climb as the city has experienced 95 cases year-to-date as of May 2, according to the Dallas crime analytics overview dashboard, an increase of 22% over the same time period last year.
