A shooting at a convenience store in downtown Dallas Wednesday evening left one dead and another in critical condition.

Dallas police are investigating the shooting at a 7-Eleven store located at 1010 Ross Avenue.

DART Police responded to a call at the location just after 5:30 p.m. and found two males wounded by gunfire.

Omarian Jamal Frazier, 17, was pronounced dead at the scene, and another unidentified victim was transported to the hospital in critical condition.

The motive behind the shootings is unknown. Investigators are seeking details to determine potential suspects and said they have no further information at this time.

Residents in Dallas expressed their reactions to the news of the shooting on social media.

Shaun Balkum, a local artist, alleged on Instagram that this wasn’t the first incident at the 1010 Ross 7-Eleven. “Swear it’s always something Going on at that location,” he wrote.

Keith Meline commented, “Can’t even go 7 days without something happening at that spot.”

A.D. Sims, a local chef and food stylist, also commented. “Dallas as a whole is a crime scene.”

Convenience stores are the fourth most common location for violent crime nationwide, according to an FBI report. The top three locations for crime, respectively, are residences; roadways/sidewalks/alleys; and parking lots/garages.

There have been 86 homicides recorded so far this year in Dallas, according to the City of Dallas Open Data crime analytics dashboard. That represents a 10.26% increase over the same period last year.

Weapons law violations have also increased by a little over 1% year to date, increasing from 660 to 667.

The shooting occurred in City Council District 14, represented by Councilman Paul Ridley.

The Dallas Express contacted Councilman Ridley for comment but did not receive a response before publication.
