When officers with Customs and Border Protection stopped a man at the Mexican border, they learned he was wanted in Dallas.

CBP officers caught Daniel Galvan, 40, trying to cross the Mexican border on December 14, according to a press release. They soon learned he was wanted in Dallas for felony sex assault.

“Our frontline officers maintained strict vigilance and detained and apprehended a northbound traveler wanted on a significant outstanding felony warrant for a violent sexual offense,” said Progreso Port Director Michael Martinez.

Galvan, an American citizen, was trying to cross the Progreso International Bridge – between McAllen and Brownsville – on foot, according to the release. CBP officers brought him to secondary inspection, then used “biometric verification” with law enforcement databases to find he was wanted for felony sex assault by the Dallas County Sheriff’s Office.

CBP officers brought Galvan to jail to face the warrant. According to jail records, he was booked in the Hidalgo County Jail on December 14 on a “fugitive warrant” from Dallas County for sexual assault.

More specifically, Galvan was charged with allegedly committing a sex assault in the second degree in February, according to Dallas County court records. He is a resident of Edinburg, Texas.

In November, CBP officers at the Mexican border also arrested three child sex assault suspects within a single week, as The Dallas Express reported at the time. In early December, authorities also cracked down on human smuggling efforts at the border – discovering 15 illegal aliens in the cab of a stolen semi truck, and sentencing a Brownsville man for illegally smuggling more than 100 migrants.
