Mass Shooting In Texas Panhandle Leaves 5 Dead, Including Suspect

Five people are dead, including the suspect, after a mass shooting early Saturday morning in a rural Texas Panhandle neighborhood near Plainview.

Violence erupted around 3:40 a.m. in the Seth Ward neighborhood, leaving four dead at the scene and a fifth victim who died later at a hospital.

Texas Department of Public Safety officials identified 33-year-old Saul Villa as the shooter.

Villa was among the four people found dead at a home in the 2700 block of Upchurch Street.

The other victims who died at the scene were Hector Alonso Sanchez, 28, Tanya Paola Valadez Rangel, 30, and Rosalba Saenz Rodriguez, 47.

Reily Joseph Zavala Barrientos, 21, was rushed to Covenant Hospital-Plainview but succumbed to his injuries. Authorities haven’t disclosed how the five people knew each other or what triggered the violence.

The Hale County Sheriff’s Office called in the Texas Rangers after responding to the shooting. State officials released few details about the investigation. The motive behind the deadly rampage remains unknown.

Plainview sits about 45 minutes north of Lubbock in the sparsely populated Texas Panhandle.
