A Fort Worth Police Department detective has been arrested for an alleged burglary incident.
Officers responded to a burglary call on July 8 after residents reported an individual with a gun had forced his way into a home. Upon investigation, officers discovered that detective Bryan Lafaurie had allegedly entered the home just before 6 p.m. to confront some teens he suspected of stealing his personal property.
“The Fort Worth Police Department holds its officers to a high standard both on and off-duty and does not tolerate criminal misconduct; therefore, a thorough investigation into the circumstances of these allegations is being conducted,” the Fort Worth Police Department stated in a press release.
Lafaurie, who was off-duty at the time of the incident, was stripped of all police powers during the criminal and administrative investigations. Based on the investigation’s findings, the Fort Worth Police Department obtained an arrest warrant for Lafaurie on July 12.
Lafaurie then turned himself in at the Tarrant County Jail. He has retained defense attorney Robert Huseman of Fort Worth and the law firm Varghese Summersett. Huseman asks the public “not to rush to judgment. Officer Lafaurie is a devoted father and dedicated police corporal who has served his community for years.”
The detective has been with the department for eight years and was assigned to the digital forensics unit prior to his arrest.
