A major traffic accident occurred in northeast Fort Worth near Euless on Monday, injuring 10 people and involving multiple vehicles, including an 18-wheeler.
The incident happened before 6 a.m. on Texas 183 near the exit for Texas 360, according to the Fort Worth Star-Telegram.
Fort Worth police officers and firefighters with the Fort Worth Fire Department arrived on the scene after the crash.
In an incident report turned into the Fort Worth Police Department, responding officers wrote that multiple witnesses at the scene had reported seeing a man running directly on the highway, westbound Texas 183, near the northbound exit for Texas 360.
Fort Worth police spokesperson Tracy Carter told the Fort Worth Star-Telegram that the pedestrian made himself into a hazard on the road, endangered motorists, and likely ended up causing the multiple-vehicle wreck.
MedStar emergency medical technicians (EMTs) also responded to the scene of the incident. They found that in the aftermath of several cars and an 18-wheeler colliding, 10 people sustained minor injuries, including one person who was ejected from their vehicle, according to a MedStar email alert obtained by the Fort Worth Star-Telegram.
However, Officer Carter noted that after the responding EMTs looked over the 10 victims of the crash, they determined that no one involved in the incident required urgent transportation by MedStar or the police to the hospital for further treatment.
It is currently unclear whether the Fort Worth Police Department is conducting an investigation into the identity of the man who allegedly ran onto the highway or if the police even consider him a suspect in a crime.
Chapter 522 of the Texas Transportation Code stipulates that a pedestrian may walk on or along a highway if no adjacent sidewalk is available, but only if they walk on “the shoulder of the highway facing oncoming traffic.”
Officer Carter did not indicate whether the man was complying with the Transportation Code at the time of the crash.
