The U.S. Attorney for the Northern District of Texas, Chad E. Meacham, announced on April 25 that the final defendant in the Han Gil Hotel Town drug trafficking case has been sentenced to 40 years in federal prison after a jury convicted him of conspiracy to distribute heroin and crack cocaine.
According to the announcement, the evidence presented during the trial showed 39-year-old Bryan Reshad Hill based his heroin and cocaine business in the Han Gil Hotel Town.
According to evidence presented at Hill’s sentencing hearing, it was determined that the 39-year-old also raped and possibly murdered a 19-year-old drug user inside one of the hotel’s trap rooms on December 27, 2018. The girl’s corpse had been dumped in an Oak Cliff park, where it was recovered a month later.
According to the office of the U.S. Attorney for the Northern District of Texas, a witness testified to the assault at Hill’s jury trial. The witness testified that she heard the 39-year-old tell the victim, “Stop fighting. You cannot win,” in a restroom. After Hill left the restroom, the witness said she saw the victim’s lifeless body on the floor.
During the hearing, Judge Scholer said that Hill must have sexually assaulted the vulnerable girl because the victim was unable to consent to a sex act.
The judge made the determination after reviewing surveillance footage taken from the hotel, which showed Hill carrying the victim, who was almost unconscious, into the bathroom. The footage also showed Hill exiting the bathroom moments later, wearing gloves on both hands.
Hill is one of twenty-four defendants who have already been sentenced in connection to the case. The hotel’s owner, Su Amos Mun, pleaded guilty to maintaining drug-involved premises in August 2019 and was subsequently sentenced to 20 years in federal prison. Mun had accepted an inflated daily rate from Hill and other dealers in exchange for overlooking the drug trafficking conducted inside his hotel.
The hotel has now been closed since March 8, 2019.
Eric Dewayne Freeman, the leader of the drug operation, was sentenced to 30 years in federal prison after pleading guilty in June 2019 to possession of a firearm in furtherance of a drug trafficking crime, conspiracy to possess with the intent to distribute heroin, and possession of a firearm by a felon.
“To say the crimes that occurred at the Han Gil Hotel were horrendous would not be enough to describe the degree of violence, viciousness, and pain that occurred at the hands of Mr. Hill and others,” said Eduardo A. Chávez, the DEA Special Agent in Charge.
Meacham added that the defendants committed “truly heinous acts,” inside the Han Gil Hotel Town.
“It has been four years since our office began its investigation of Han Gil Hotel Town, and today, we are proud to bring this sordid case to a close,” Meacham said.
