The discovery of a man’s body inside a home in Pleasant Grove on Christmas has sparked a police investigation and the hunt for a suspect.

Dallas police are investigating an apparent homicide after the body of 41-year-old Calvin Daulton was recovered inside a home at approximately 11:20 p.m. on December 25. Officers had been deployed to perform a welfare check on a residence in the 7800 block of Rayville Drive.

The department has not disclosed what prompted this check or Daulton’s cause of death.

Anyone with information that might point police in the direction of the suspect is asked to contact Detective Joann Castillo by phone at 214-671-4739 or by email at [email protected].

Dallas Crime Stoppers is offering a reward of up to $5,000 for information leading to a felony arrest. These tips must be directly submitted to the organization at 214-373-TIPS (8477).

The alleged homicide occurred in Council Member Jaime Resendez’s District 5, which The Dallas Express recently reported had the highest year-over-year spike (16.3% as of December 26) in robbery offenses this year.

Across the city, the murder rate has soared, reaching 240 criminal homicides for a 13.7% hike, according to the City’s crime analytics dashboard.

The Dallas Police Department has been struggling to get crime under control amid a longstanding officer shortage. There are currently only around 3,000 officers within the ranks despite a City analysis recommending closer to 4,000.

The impact of this deficit is apparent in Downtown Dallas, which logs far more crime than Fort Worth’s city center, which is patrolled by a specialized neighborhood police unit and private security guards.
