ICE arrested Guatemalan illegal alien Esdras Aaron Rodriguez-Hernandez, 23, in Minnesota after local authorities released him on $100 cash bail in a misdemeanor domestic assault case and later amended the charge, according to court records, law enforcement documents, and a White House statement issued February 3. He was taken into custody by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement and is awaiting deportation.

ICE later confirmed the arrest occurred on January 25, per an official ICE St. Paul announcement.

Case Timeline

  • September 7, 2024: Charged with misdemeanor domestic assault in Bloomington, Minnesota
  • November 20, 2024: Bench warrant issued for failure to appear
  • November 9, 2025: Arrested on the warrant and booked into the Hennepin County Jail
  • November 10, 2025: Released after posting $100 cash bail
  • January 6, 2026: Charge amended to misdemeanor disorderly conduct; stay of adjudication granted
  • January 25, 2026: ICE apprehends illegal alien in the community (per ICE St. Paul announcement)

Domestic Assault Charge Later Amended

Minnesota court records show Rodriguez-Hernandez was initially charged with misdemeanor domestic assault for “intentionally inflicting or attempting to inflict bodily harm on another,” according to the criminal complaint.

After failing to appear for a scheduled court hearing, a bench warrant remained active for nearly a year before he was arrested again in November 2025. A release receipt filed by the Hennepin County Sheriff’s Office shows he was released the following day after posting $100 cash bail.

On January 6, the court amended the charge to misdemeanor disorderly conduct and granted a stay of adjudication. A stay of adjudication allows a court to withhold a conviction and dismiss the case if probation conditions are successfully completed.

White House Cites Enforcement Challenges After Release

The White House said the case illustrates how sanctuary jurisdictions handle illegal aliens, pointing to the release on low bail, the subsequent amendment of the domestic assault charge, and the lack of notification to federal immigration authorities.

Federal officials said those policies prevented ICE from taking custody directly from the jail and instead required agents to arrest Rodriguez-Hernandez later in the community.

In a video posted on X by Rapid Response 47, Tom Homan said immigration arrests made after release require additional personnel because suspects are taken into custody outside controlled jail environments.

DHS Lists Additional Illegal Alien Arrests in Minnesota

The Department of Homeland Security maintains a Minnesota page listing multiple illegal aliens it says were arrested in the state after convictions for crimes including homicide, sexual assault, and aggravated assault.

The DHS “Worst of the Worst” Minnesota page lists offenders from countries including Somalia, Mexico, Laos, El Salvador, Cuba, Vietnam, and Sierra Leone, along with arrest locations in Minneapolis, Saint Paul, Lino Lakes, and Moose Lake.

As previously reported by The Dallas Express, ICE has made similar arrests in other sanctuary jurisdictions after local officials released criminal illegal aliens despite federal enforcement efforts.

The White House said federal immigration enforcement efforts in Minnesota will continue, citing public safety concerns tied to defendants being released from custody.
