A Tarrant County judge ruled that Chrisantus Omondi was legally insane when he killed Fort Worth delivery driver Scotty Jackson in January 2024. Omondi is expected to be transferred to a state hospital, though Tarrant County’s inmate search still listed him in custody at the Tarrant County Corrections Center on Wednesday, Fox 4 reported.
Judge Vincent Giardino issued the ruling in the 396th District Court after prosecutors and defense attorneys accepted a mental evaluation that concluded Omondi was legally insane at the time of the attack. The evaluation was prepared in February 2026 and filed under seal, according to earlier local reporting
As previously reported by The Dallas Express, police charged Omondi after they said he attacked Jackson while Jackson delivered firewood to a Fort Worth home ahead of a winter freeze.
According to an arrest warrant affidavit cited by Fox 4, Jackson was unloading firewood with a homeowner when Omondi approached them naked and accused them of being on his property. The homeowner told police that Omondi struck Jackson with a piece of firewood, chased the homeowner inside, and returned to continue beating Jackson. Witnesses and video surveillance supported the homeowner’s account.
After the killing, Omondi went back to the Airbnb where he had been staying and allegedly tried to assault another tenant before officers detained him.
