A former North Texas teacher and coach was arrested on a child grooming charge after investigators discovered an AI-generated document outlining a step-by-step “influence plan” targeting a minor, according to court records and Mesquite police.

Matthan Lough, 32, of Crandall, was arrested after Mesquite Police Department investigators obtained a warrant following an investigation that began on October 2 at the Christian Center of Mesquite, located in the 4400 block of East Cartwright Road.

According to an arrest affidavit, the case began when a mother reported an alleged inappropriate relationship between Lough and her daughter. She told investigators she discovered sexual and inappropriate messages exchanged between the two.

The victim later described multiple encounters involving Lough, including alleged kissing inside the church gym and inappropriate physical contact in a parking lot, the affidavit states.

AI-Generated Document Outlined Manipulation Strategy

Investigators said the case escalated after they received an Apple iPad from Lough’s wife, which contained evidence including an AI-generated document titled “Hypothetical Counter-Influence Plan.”

According to the affidavit, the document laid out a five-phase strategy allegedly designed to manipulate and psychologically influence the minor:

  • Stabilize & Strengthen Her
  • Plant Gentle Doubts
  • Rebuild Her Autonomy
  • Shift the Power Dynamic
  • Let Her Choose

Police cited the document as part of the evidence supporting the child grooming charge.

Alleged Threats and Escalating Behavior

The affidavit further states the victim reported Lough’s behavior escalated over time. She told investigators Lough allegedly said he always carried an assault rifle, a pistol, and a knife, asked her to call him “an assassin,” and described in detail how he would kill someone — including the victim’s ex-boyfriend.

Lough also allegedly threatened to kill the victim’s father after he disapproved of the alleged relationship, according to investigators.

Employment History and Institutional Responses

Police said Lough previously worked as a teacher and coach at Pioneer Technology and Arts Academy (PTAA) in Mesquite and also served as a club volleyball coach in the area.

In a statement, the Christian Center of Mesquite confirmed Lough is the son of its former senior pastor, who has since resigned. The church said Lough was not an employee and emphasized support for the victim and her family.

“Our immediate priority is to support and seek justice for the victim and her family,” the church said, adding that it is cooperating with law enforcement and conducting an internal review of child protection policies.

PTAA Chief Academic Officer Derrick Love said Lough is not currently employed by the school and has not worked there during the 2025–2026 school year.

“PTAA maintains strict hiring and safety practices, including full background checks,” Love said, adding that the school would not comment further due to the ongoing investigation.

The case remains under investigation.
