DALLAS

A 5-year-old child was wounded by gunfire in Pleasant Grove Sunday evening while riding in a car.

Dallas police officers were called to the scene in the 1200 block of Carbona Drive, near Loop 12 and Lake June Road in southeast Dallas, at about 9:07 p.m.

The victim was struck in the torso when a white four-door sedan opened fire on the vehicle in which the child was riding. The shooting is believed to have happened in the 100 block of N. Jim Miller Road, according to police.

Two adults who were in the car with the victim drove to a nearby fire station for help.

Police believe the occupants of the two vehicles may have exchanged gunfire but have not determined a motive. They have not ruled out road rage as a possibility.

The 5-year-old child was taken to a nearby hospital and is in stable condition.
