Family members of 36-year-old Dylan Reeves are speaking out about his alleged murder this weekend.

Reeves’ death was the first reported homicide of the new year in Dallas, as previously reported by The Dallas Express.

Reeves was reportedly walking to a neighbor’s house to speak with them early in the morning of January 1 about shooting their guns off to celebrate the new year.

Donald Reeves, the victim’s father, told Fox 4 DFW that his son planned to stay home for the holiday and be with his girlfriend and three children in their home in Oak Cliff.

Reeves leaves behind a 12-year-old son, a 5-year-old daughter, and a 3-year-old son.

“He was a man who loved his family,” Donald Reeves said.

Charity Reeves, the victim’s sister, spoke with Fox 4 DFW about what her brother’s family meant to him.

“He was a really good husband. Really good father,” she said.

Reeves was reportedly worried that bullets from the neighbors’ shooting on New Year’s Eve could potentially end up in his family’s home. Early in the morning of New Year’s Day in Arlington, a 12-year-old boy was grazed by a bullet during celebratory gunfire.

Donald Reeves said his son went over to tell the group to stop shooting their guns.

“He said he was going to go confront these people. He was tired of it,” the father said.

Reeves said his son went alone. That was the last time he saw his son alive.

According to Donald Reeves, Dylan was shot multiple times.

“After that altercation with this other individual whatever this person comes out and shoots him multiple times. Not once. Multiple times,” he said.

Police have allegedly identified the suspect in the shooting as 18-year-old Miguel Sereno.

Before officers arrived on the scene, police said Sereno fled. Police are still searching for Sereno, and the investigation into the incident is ongoing.

Anyone with information on Sereno’s whereabouts should call 911. Police say the suspect should be considered armed and dangerous.

The shooting took place in Dallas’ District 3, represented in the city council by repeat Crime Boss Casey Thomas II, as violent crime continues to rock the community.
