A police affidavit has revealed additional information on Monday’s murder of a 28-year-old woman, who police say was shot by her own mother after the two argued over alcohol at their home.

Shanika Battle, 49, remained in Dallas County Jail following the Monday afternoon incident that left Tabatha Jones dead from a gunshot wound to her side, as The Dallas Express previously reported.

Police responded around 3:55 p.m. on February 2 to a residence in the 800 block of Green Cove Lane in the East Oak Cliff area after Jones called 911 and reported that her mother had shot her.

Officers arrived to find Jones on a bed suffering from the injury and took her to a hospital, where she died about an hour later.

Battle, the only other person present in the home, was arrested at the scene. Authorities recovered a pistol and a cartridge casing from the home.

According to an arrest affidavit, Battle told investigators the argument began when Jones became upset over Battle taking alcohol that belonged to her. Battle said Jones then “started going into rooms that aren’t hers” inside the house, prompting her to retrieve a gun from her purse to scare her daughter.

Battle denied that the confrontation turned physical and denied shooting Jones, the affidavit states.
