Surrounded by law enforcement, a man accused of sexually assaulting a child fatally shot himself in a Dallas hotel’s parking lot Tuesday morning.

A U.S. Marshals task force went to the hotel after a tip that the man, wanted on a charge of continuous sexual assault of a child, was there.

The man was surrounded by the task force, which included officers from the Dallas Police Department. He shot himself inside a vehicle with a handgun around 8 a.m. in front of the La Quinta Inn & Suites on the 8300 block of John W. Carpenter Freeway, near Stemmons Freeway and Mockingbird Lane, Dallas police told The Dallas Express.

The man later died at a hospital. His name had not been released by Tuesday afternoon. Law enforcement representatives stated an identification would be made pending notification of next of kin.

The Office of Community Police Oversight was notified and responded to the scene of the incident.

The matter is currently under investigation by the Dallas police special investigations unit and the Dallas County District Attorney’s Office, said Dallas police.
