Dallas SWAT officers shot and killed a wanted suspect in the parking garage of Children’s Medical Center Dallas after he exited a vehicle and pointed a gun at them, authorities said.

The confrontation unfolded around 7:30 p.m. Wednesday when members of the police fugitive task force followed the man to the 1900 block of Medical District Drive during a surveillance operation, Chief Daniel Comeaux said. Officers attempted to make contact, but the suspect barricaded himself inside his car.

SWAT teams responded to the scene. Tear gas and other methods were used to get the suspect to exit the vehicle, Comeaux said. When he came out, he allegedly pointed a gun at officers, who then shot him.

Officers and the Dallas SWAT doctor attempted to aid the suspect, but he died at the scene. No officers or hospital staff were injured.

Comeaux did not identify the suspect or say what he was wanted for. The department is expected to release more information on the shooting in the coming days. The incident remains under investigation.
