Dallas police are investigating a recent hit-and-run incident that left one pedestrian dead, and they are asking for the public’s help to identify the vehicle that may have been involved.

The incident occurred around 10 p.m. on June 11 when a vehicle, possibly a pickup truck, traveling westbound in the 9200 block of Lake June Road struck a pedestrian, according to police.

Officers identified the man that was struck as 51-year-old James Stockton. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

The driver fled the location, according to police. Police have not released a description of the driver.

A surveillance camera further down the street captured images of several vehicles that were nearby at the time of the incident. Police have singled out two vehicles they would like to identify so they can interview the drivers.

Police said the suspect’s vehicle would likely have front-end damage. Anyone with information on this investigation is asked to contact Dallas Police Detective Eric Knight at 214-671-0020 or [email protected].

The incident occurred in District 5 in southeast Dallas, which is represented by City Council Member Jaime Resendez. Resendez was named Crime Boss of the Month in February after his district recorded the largest year-over-year crime score increase during the previous month. Aggravated assaults, thefts, and motor vehicle thefts spiked by more than 50% compared to the same period last year.

Police coverage on the streets of Dallas is spread thin as the department faces a shortage of officers. Currently, the department has a little over 3,100 officers and needs an additional 400-500, according to Mike Mata, president of the Dallas Police Association.

Crime in downtown Dallas is rampant, especially compared to Fort Worth, which has dedicated police units to patrol the area.
