In this week’s installment of The Dallas Express‘ Most Wanted, the news outlet is putting the spotlight on a currently unidentified suspect being sought by the Dallas Police Department.
Earlier this month, a black man reportedly committed an armed robbery at the Texaco gas station in the 6800 block of Lake June Road. The crime occurred on August 2 at around 2:30 a.m. in Council Member Jaime Resendez’s District 5.
His face was captured by a surveillance camera in the store.
“The preliminary investigation determined the pictured individual entered the gas station and pointed a handgun at the cashier, demanding money. The suspect took the money and left the location,” DPD said of the incident.
According to the City of Dallas crime analytics dashboard, robberies are still a big problem in the city, with officials clocking 1,408 so far this year as of August 14. Some 91 have been committed in District 5 in that span.
Of the 1,408 robberies that took place in Dallas this year, more than 800 of them involved a firearm, per a crime report by DPD.
Authorities want to get the word out and encourage anyone who might recognize the individual from the surveillance footage or have any information related to the incident to contact Det. Andrew Sanchez at 214-671-4742 or via email at [email protected]. The associated case number is 117757-2024.
While DPD has been doing what it can to further reduce violent crime (including robberies), it has been struggling against a longstanding officer shortage.
Just 3,000 officers are currently fielded, whereas a City report previously called for closer to 4,000. City leaders opted to allocate just $654 million to the department this fiscal year, far less than the spending levels on police in other high-crime jurisdictions, including New York City, Los Angeles, and Chicago.
Don’t live in Dallas? Don’t worry. In this series, The Dallas Express will cover the most wanted offenders all across North Texas.
