Dallas police arrested a man found sleeping in a stolen luxury SUV, leading to charges including unauthorized use of a motor vehicle and uncovering evidence connected to mail theft that aided a federal investigation.
The Northeast Crime Response Team responded on January 29 to a Flock alert on a Mercedes GLE stolen from Dallas-Fort Worth International Airport. Officers tracked the vehicle to an area near Audelia Road and Walnut Street, where they took Loi Lien, 35, into custody peacefully.
An inventory search of the SUV revealed items belonging to Lien. Further examination of his property revealed signs of additional crimes related to stolen mail.
The findings not only led to several felony counts against Lien but also provided key details to U.S. Postal Inspectors in their ongoing investigation, bolstering interagency cooperation.
The officers’ “diligence and attention to detail” helped strengthen another agency’s case and “demonstrated outstanding teamwork and professionalism,” the Dallas Police Department noted in a press release.
Lien was booked into Dallas County Jail on charges of unauthorized use of a motor vehicle, possession of identifiers, unlawful use of a criminal instrument, possession of a controlled substance in penalty group 1 under 1 gram, and a theft warrant out of Collin County.
