The Dallas County Sheriff’s Office is warning residents about a recent jury duty scam involving phone calls and emails.

Numerous residents, particularly elderly individuals, have fallen victim to the deception, and the sheriff’s office is urging the public to remain vigilant and informed.

The scammers employ coercive tactics to intimidate their targets by impersonating court officials, Dallas County sheriff’s deputies, or local police officers.

These fraudulent calls and emails threaten recipients with prosecution for allegedly failing to comply with jury summonses in federal, state, or county courts.

The fraudsters then demand payment of fines or request sensitive personal information that could be used for identity theft and financial fraud.

The Dallas County Sheriff’s Office emphasized that it will never call residents to collect fines for missed jury duty.

Furthermore, the sheriff’s office does not initiate phone calls regarding outstanding warrants or request any form of payment over the phone.

Legitimate court communications with prospective jurors will be conducted exclusively through the U.S. mail system.

It is essential for residents to remain cautious and not disclose any financial or sensitive information over the phone or through email.

Court representatives will not ask for financial information, social security numbers, credit card details, or any other sensitive data during phone conversations.

It is a criminal offense for individuals to falsely represent themselves as peace officers or public servants.

While jury duty is a civic responsibility that should be taken seriously, residents are advised to be wary of any suspicious phone calls or emails.

If you believe you have received a fraudulent jury-duty-related communication, the Dallas County Sheriff’s Office recommends contacting Dallas County Jury Services at 214-653-3593 to report the incident and speak with a representative.

The sheriff’s office stressed the importance of community awareness and encouraged residents to stay informed about these fraudulent activities. By remaining vigilant and informed, individuals can protect themselves from falling victim to scams and help maintain the security of the community.
