Collin County investigators are searching for a middle school student after an adult man was found dead with multiple gunshot wounds inside a Lavon home Saturday night, according to police.
Lavon Police officers responded to a reported shooting at approximately 8:50 p.m. on December 13 at a residence in the 700 block of Wellington Drive in the Crestridge Meadows neighborhood. The initial call indicated the shooting followed an altercation between two individuals.
When officers arrived, they found an adult male suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. Despite lifesaving efforts, the victim was pronounced dead at the scene. Police have not released the victim’s identity.
Authorities said the suspect, identified only as a juvenile, fled the scene on foot before officers arrived. Because of the suspect’s age, police said no identifying information will be released.
The Lavon Police Department stated the incident appears to be isolated and does not pose an ongoing threat to the broader community, though the investigation remains active.
School District Response
Community Independent School District confirmed the suspect is a student at Community Trails Middle School and said the student has not been on campus since November 11.
In a statement, district officials said campuses within the City of Lavon — Community Trails Middle School, Dodson Elementary School, and NeSmith Elementary School — will be closed to visitors until the suspect is apprehended. The district said the campuses will have an increased security presence, including armed CISD police officers already assigned to each school.
The district said it does not believe the student poses a threat to school campuses, but added the measures are being taken out of an abundance of caution. Officials noted that while the district cannot publicly identify the suspect due to federal privacy laws, the individual’s identity has been shared with school staff, district police, and local law enforcement partners.
Guidance counselors will be available for students and staff who need assistance, the district said.
Investigation Ongoing
