A Carrollton Regional Medical Center patient care technician faces a felony indecent assault charge after a patient reported waking up to unwanted sexual contact in a hospital bed, Carrollton police said on Wednesday.

Detectives arrested Ernest Ussin Jr., 46, on November 3 after obtaining a warrant for one count of indecent assault by a health care or mental health provider, a state jail felony, according to police.

Officers responded to the hospital at 4343 N. Josey Lane on November 2. The patient told investigators that Ussin engaged in sexual contact without the patient’s consent, according to the police account.

Police took Ussin to the Carrollton Jail and said they expected to transfer him to the Denton County Jail.

Police seek information

Detectives believe other people may have experienced similar incidents and want anyone with information to contact the Carrollton Police Department’s Criminal Investigations Division at 972-466-3293.

Investigators currently believe the alleged misconduct occurred only in the hospital setting, according to police. The department said it knows of no ongoing threat to the public and continues to investigate.

The charge represents an allegation. Ussin is presumed innocent unless prosecutors prove guilt in court.
