Local authorities are investigating a body found in a well in Dallas County by mushroom hunters on Sunday afternoon.

The Dallas County Sheriff’s Office said that the individuals came across the well on May 1 and decided to test its water depth with a long stick. To their surprise, what appeared to be human remains surfaced.

Authorities barricaded the area near the well and kept the area secure until the body was removed the following morning.

It is unknown the identity of the victim or how long their body has been in the well. An autopsy is scheduled for May 5.

No further information was available as of press time.

In a Facebook post, the sheriff’s office requested anyone with information to call 417-345-2441.
