A Texas man faces capital murder charges after allegedly killing his pregnant ex-girlfriend in a targeted highway shooting last month.
Malik Miner, 29, was arrested on Wednesday by U.S. Marshals for the November 12 killing of Bre’Asia Johnson along Interstate 20 in Arlington.
Johnson, 29, died from gunshot wounds while riding with her current boyfriend and two children.
Arlington police say Miner followed his ex-girlfriend’s vehicle before opening fire near Bowman Springs Road around 7:41 p.m. Cell phone records allegedly placed Miner at the scene and showed his movements mirroring Johnson’s minutes before the shooting.
Johnson’s current boyfriend called 911 after being shot and pulled into a parking lot on Little Road. First responders found Johnson unresponsive in the passenger seat.
She was pronounced dead at a hospital. The current boyfriend survived with serious injuries and has since been released.
Two children in the backseat escaped physical harm but witnessed the violence. A second vehicle was also struck by gunfire during the attack.
Police quickly determined this wasn’t road rage but a targeted assault. Detectives say Miner had been feuding with Johnson’s new boyfriend before the shooting.
The Midlothian resident now faces capital murder charges, three counts of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, and one count of deadly conduct. He declined to speak with investigators after his arrest.
Miner remains in Arlington city jail awaiting further proceedings in a case that claimed two lives—a young mother and her unborn child.
