One man was fatally shot, and another was injured in Deep Ellum on Sunday after an argument led to a shooting.
Dallas police said they received reports of a shooting in the 2600 block of Elm Street outside 7-Eleven. Officers in the area were dispatched to the scene at about 2:55 a.m. on August 21.
Upon arrival, they found Ricky Burns, 26, lying on the ground. Burns had been shot in the chest; he died at the scene.
Police found that a second person had been shot in the leg. His name was not released, but officers say he was also 26 years old.
This gunshot victim was taken to the hospital for treatment of his injuries. His condition was not known.
Detectives said they identified a potential shooting suspect and explained that he was in his 20s. On Monday, the department shared his images in case someone could identify him.
Police explained that Burns and another man had apparently gotten into an argument with the wanted suspect when the suspect walked past Burns.
Burns and the suspect reportedly pulled weapons from their waistbands, according to police, but the suspect shot first, wounding Burns and the second victim. The second victim ran around the corner and was hit in the leg while the suspect fled the scene.
Officers clarified that the second victim is not the man who was involved in the altercation between Burns and the suspect. The identity of the second man involved in the argument is unknown, but authorities described him as a Latino male between 20 and 30 years old.
Police did not specify what kind of gun was used in the shooting, but they said the investigation is ongoing and are asking for the public’s help with information related to the incident.
