A 95-year-old local woman was shot in the leg when three gunmen unloaded on her house from the street on Wednesday.

Elodia Rios was in her house at 2005 Chestnut Ave. in north Fort Worth when three unidentified individuals reportedly started banging on the home’s windows around 12:50 a.m., according to the Fort Worth Star-Telegram.

She called the Fort Worth Police Department and stated that she and her husband were locked in their bedroom. The call disconnected.

Shortly after Rios’ call, a barrage of bullets penetrated the house, punching holes in both the bedroom and living room.

Police eventually arrived and found Rios had sustained a gunshot wound to the leg during the attack. It is unclear if her husband was injured in the gunfire.

Someone who knew Rios and helped board up her house after the attack told Fox 4 he had heard from police on the scene that more than 60 empty bullet casings were found scattered outside. He stated that he did not want to be identified out of fear of retaliation. He also added that he suspects the shooters might have been trying to attack someone who had previously lived at the property.

After being shot, Rios was taken to a local hospital to receive treatment for her non-life-threatening injuries.

FOX 4 spoke to one neighbor who said after hearing gunfire, he drew back his blinds and observed three men firing their guns in the direction of Rios’ house. He said one took off on foot while the other two sped off in a vehicle.

Authorities stated that the Fort Worth Police Department’s gang unit would be a part of the investigation into the attack. No motive has been determined as of Monday.

“At this point, our main interest is locating the suspect or suspects, any suspect vehicles and getting more leads into this case,” stated Fort Worth Officer Daniel Segura. “We’re asking for anyone’s help: family members, friends, neighbors, if they saw anything.”
