An unidentified individual inexplicably fired a gun into the air in an Oak Cliff neighborhood on Monday afternoon.

Around 12:57 p.m. on August 1, Dallas police officers responded to a shooting call in the 900 block of South Barnett Avenue.

In an email to The Dallas Express, authorities stated that initial reports suggested the incident was a drive-by shooting; the individual who fired a gun had left the location before police arrived. No injuries were reported.

When The Dallas Express arrived at the scene, the incident was already cleared. The neighborhood was filled with small homes lining a narrow street. Chain-link fences surrounded some, and others had toddler toys strewn across the front yard.

On Monday afternoon, some residents expressed shock that their neighborhood had been visited by violence. A couple of block residents were out on their porch talking.

Tony Marez sat in the passenger seat of a red pickup truck with a friend.

“We didn’t hear anything,” he told The Dallas Express. “This is a good neighborhood to grow up in,” he added.

“It’s pretty good; it’s safe,” he emphasized, “for Dallas.”

Dallas police are investigating the incident, documented under case numbers 138710-2022 and 138714-2022.
