More than 80% of documented “crimes against persons” in Dallas this year were committed against black or Hispanic people.

According to the City of Dallas crime victim demographics dashboard, there have been 3,462 such offenses committed as of February 23. Crimes in this category include three different types of assault offenses, six types of sexual assault, kidnapping, human trafficking, and murder.

Some 46.4% of victims were black, with a median age of 33. Women and girls comprised a 64.3% share of black victims.

Geographically, the Dallas City Council districts with the most crimes against persons in which the victim was black include Council Member Adam Bazaldua’s District 7 with 273 incidents, Council Member Tennell Atkins’ District 8 with 231 incidents, and Council Member Carolyn King Arnold’s District 4 with 205 incidents.

In the case of Hispanic and Latino victims, they made up 35% of all crime-against-person victims so far this year, with a median age of 30. Women and girls constituted 58.8% of such victims.

Council Member Omar Narvaez’s District 6 had the most offenses clocked at 182, followed by Council Member Jesse Moreno’s District 2 at 127, and then Council Member Chad West’s District 1 at 125.

Budgeting only $654 million for the department this year, the Dallas City Council opted to spend much less taxpayer money on law enforcement than other high-crime jurisdictions, like Chicago, Los Angeles, and New York City, despite the ongoing staffing shortage at the Dallas Police Department. DPD only has around 3,000 officers patrolling the streets at present, however, a City analysis recommends roughly 4,000.

As previously reported by The Dallas Express, the police shortage has had an impact on Downtown Dallas, which routinely outpaces Fort Worth’s city center by a wide margin when it comes to assaults, drug crimes, and motor vehicle thefts. A dedicated neighborhood police unit and private security officers patrol Fort Worth’s downtown area.

In a recent interview with The Dallas Express, former congressman Lt. Col. Allen West expressed his frustration with Democrats and district attorneys backed by George Soros-funded groups, claiming they have made communities more unsafe for black Americans in particular.

“[T]his is why a lot of people are turning away from the Democratic Party because they have been doing nothing but destroying the black community. Destroying the black family. Increasing the level of crime. Lowering the educational opportunities and economic opportunities in the black communities,” West said.
