A woman and her dog were found dead following a house fire in Northeast Dallas Tuesday morning, a spokesperson for Dallas Fire-Rescue told The Dallas Express.

When firefighters arrived at the scene in the 2500 block of Jonesboro Avenue around 6:09 a.m., flames were pouring out of the front window, Public Information Officer Jason L. Evans said.

“They deployed handlines and made their way inside the home, where they found and extinguished a fire in the home’s front living area,” Evans said. “Unfortunately, after the fire was out, they found the unresponsive bodies of an adult female occupant and her dog, both of whom were pronounced dead at the scene.”

Neighbors attempted to rouse the home’s occupants to alert them to the fire while waiting for firefighters to arrive.

“Neighbors saw the flames and were knocking on the door prior to DFR arrival,” Evans said, “but no one answered.”

Evans said the flames were so intense they burned into the attic space and through the roof.

“Though fire Investigators believe the fire originated in the front living area of the home, the [fire’s] cause will remain undetermined until the Medical Examiner’s Office makes an official ruling on the victim’s cause of death,” Evans added.
