A large grass fire began on Sunday afternoon and required over 100 fire personnel to manage.

Dallas Fire-Rescue (DFR) began to receive calls about a fire near Botham Jean Boulevard and Interstate 75 around 5 p.m., according to Fox 4 KDFW.

Multiple fires were discovered in areas where train tracks cross the Trinity River, according to DFR. The fire prompted the department to shut down train activity in the area, as well as to close some streets, per Fox 4.

The Trinity River Bridge must be repaired before it can be safely used, according to the department, per Fox 4.

Jason Evans, spokesman for DFR, said in a written statement on Monday that the fire had been extinguished at some point during the night, reported The Dallas Morning News.

No injuries from the fire were reported, and the cause is still unknown.

DFR released a statement explaining that weather conditions in the Dallas-Fort Worth metroplex had complicated their efforts to contain the fire.

“Due to the number of fires and dry conditions, these fires posed a dynamic and complex fire scene requiring the coordination of many resources,” wrote the department, per the DMN.

The temperature on Sunday reached 104 degrees in Dallas, and the hot weather is expected to continue throughout the week.

“We’re going to be in the triple digits until rain chances return to the DFW area early next week,” said Sarah Barnes, a meteorologist at the National Weather Service (NWS) Fort Worth, to The Dallas Express. “There’s a slight chance it will dip below 100 on Sunday, but probably not.”

The hottest day of the year came on July 18 when the temperature reached 108 degrees. That day was just one of the more than 20 that have reached over 100 degrees in 2023, according to The Dallas Express.

High temperatures are not exclusive to the metroplex, as the NWS said that 40% of the U.S. is under heat advisories.
