An “unknown substance” has part of Interstate 35 closed.

A spill incident reportedly made for slick roadways this morning, according to the Carrollton Police Department, which posted about the incident on social media.

From Valwood Parkway to Frankford Road, I-35’s northbound main lines were closed at 1:00 a.m. overnight on Monday. According to the Texas Department of Transportation’s 5:10 a.m. update, which was provided to the Carrollton Police Department, clearing the highway could take around three additional hours or so.

At this time, the Carrollton Police Department suspects a leak from an 18-wheeler caused the spill.

As TxDOT works to clean the roads, drivers are urged to exercise caution and reduce speed while in the vicinity of the spill. It is also recommended that motorists consider taking alternate routes to avoid any potential hazards or delays that may arise during the cleaning process.

Your safety and the safety of other drivers on the road are of utmost importance, so please drive responsibly and follow any instructions or signs provided by TxDOT personnel.
